Hey Frederik
Thanks for your comments. We were using i think a release Canditate or something, around beginning of April, can't remember. The issue with the missing Alpha channels has actually been acknowledged recently in the Forum through Marc Colemont, and actually even throug a comment from you..
I am glad to heare about the toplayers... they will definetly come in handy once in a while.

Hi,

Thank you for posting such nice comments about our latest developments.

There are a few remarks I want to make on your post however.

1. We focused indeed on scaling our video engine to a Full-HD capable system. We solved problems dealing with graphics memory and pixel accurate playback. I'm glad you noticed it. On the latest revision E hardware the cpu has become so powerfull that you can play up to 8 H.264 encoded full HD files without problems. Encoding is always a difficult task for a user. We should certainly look into transcoding inside the server system. But on the other hand, there are many good encoders on the marker for mp4 or H.264 mov. (after effects, elecard converter studio proHD, procoder 3 to name a few). Selecting a bitrate and a profile with default settings already gives you a good start.

We are currently in the final phase of releasing version 4 and also the MPEG2 playback will have a major improvement in build 100. So mpeg2 lovers will also feel home.

I did not know about what beta build you used, but there is also much time spent in synchronizing video en fixing small bugs in the synchronization algorithm. Between engines, video loops run in sync and within the same cue, the video is also synchronized.
Wether you use HD or SD contents, it works very nice.

Build 100 will have now 4 toplayers enabled too. you can patch these toplayers onto you desk and use them as a standard layer based media server.

And what you say about our programmer and the 16 bit values is true. We always based our programmer interface on the same codebase en gui structure as we use it on the Maxxyz desk. It seems now that this is not working handy all the time while programming specific tasks on a media server. We noticed that too and are aware the some user interface updates might help you in programming more easily. Thank you for bringing that on.

About the alpha channels you are using, it works perfectly on our systems. Maybe you should send me some pictures you used and I can see what went wrong.

Regards,
Frederik Anrys
